World Environment Day June 5th 2007 Nicosia
With the occasion of the World
Environment Day as well as the completion of the project
Saving water: A completed environmental program for schools in
South-East Europe
WATERSAVE
funded by
TOYOTA Motor Europe, TOYOTA Cyprus and TOYOTA Hellas
AKTI Project and Research Centre, St Andreas elementary School,
with cooperation of Nicosia Municipality organized a celebration
event that took place at the "Melina Merkouri" hall in Nicosia at
19:00.
Present at the event were the Minister of
Education and Cultural, the Mayor of Nicosia, representative
from the Water Development Department, representatives from TOYOTA
Cyprus and of course lots of people and young children. The event
was a trip to water histories and sounds. At the event was also
presented (passage dramatized) a story book (comic) prepared by the
children, for the children with strong messages for adults. Copies of
the book were shared among the quests.<MORE

Blue Flag Programme
The Blue
Flag is an exclusive eco-label awarder to over 3200 and marinas in 36
countries across Europe, South Africa, Morocco, New Zealand, Canada and
the Caribbean in 2006. The Blue Flag works towards sustainable
development at beaches/marinas through strict criteria dealing with
water quality, environmental education and information, environmental
management, and safety and other services. It includes environmental
education and information for the public, decision makers and tourism
operators.
The Blue Flag Programme is owned and run by the
independent non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental
Education (FEE).
AKTI is participating as a member of the National
Jury of Cyprus.<click

Workshop
on Integrated Coastal Zone Management and the Role of Civil Society.
March 15 2007, Nicosia.
Τhe 15th of March 2007, took place the Workshop:
Integrated Coastal Zone Management and the Role of Civil Society, in
Goethe Institute in Nicosia. The Workshop was very successful: 10
subjects have been presented and discussed concerning sustainable
coastal management, the role of civil society the situation in Cyprus,
projects have been presented like CAMP Cyprus, and experience from other
countries (eg the case of Elefsina by MedSOS and ENCORA network). 50
people attended the works throughout the day. The European Network for
Coastal Research (ENCORA,
www.encora.org) participated in the workshop, represented by prof.
Prinos. Dr Jaco Cilliers, Project Manager of UNDP-ACT did the opening of
the works, emphasising on the importance of sustainable coastal
development for the future of Cyprus and the significance of the active
involvement of citizens in the decision making process. The Workshop was
organized by AKTI Project and Research Centre, supported by the
organizations CYMEPA, KAYAD, AGEM, within the framework of the project
NETWORK FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE, which is funded by UNDP-ACT.
