As the national coordinator of the International Coastal Cleanup in Cyprus, AKTI now features on the Clean Swell App, the awarded app of #OceanConservacy! An app that helps us all join the fight for trash free seas and contributes to the World’s Largest Marine Debris Database. With the latest Clean Swell App feature, the Ocean Conservancy recognizes the partnership it has with local NGOs. So, when you open the App in Cyprus you will be welcomed by AKTI’s logo and informed about our work!

More than 20 local authorities were present at the Blue Flag General Assembly, which took place this week at Cymepa.
AKTI’s representative introduced the #ZeroWasteBeach program and its’ actions, such as the Responsible Coastal Business Network, which could be supported by local authorities and also being recognised by the Blue Flag.

18 Δεκεμβρίου: 40η επέτειος από την υιοθέτηση της Σύμβασης για την Εξάλειψη κάθε μορφής Διακρίσης κατά των Γυναικών

Οδοί με γυναικεία ονόματα σε ανεπάρκεια και στον Δήμο Λάρνακας!

Με εξαιρετικά χαμηλό ποσοστό γυναικείων ονομάτων σε οδούς εμφανίζεται και η Λάρνακα.

Με αφορμή την 40ή επέτειο από την υιοθέτηση της Σύμβασης για την Εξάλειψη κάθε μορφής Διάκρισης κατά των Γυναικών, από την Γενική Συνέλευση του ΟΗΕ, το Κέντρο Μελετών και Έρευνας ΑΚΤΗ, επέκτεινε την πρωτότυπη έρευνά του που ξεκίνησε από τη Λευκωσία (η οποία ανακοινώθηκε τον περασμένο Οκτώβριο), εξετάζοντας πόσοι δρόμοι της Λάρνακας φέρουν ονόματα σύγχρονων γυναικών, δίνοντας ιδιαίτερη έμφαση στην ονοματοδοσία σύγχρονων Κύπριων γυναικών. Αφορμή για την έρευνα αυτή στάθηκε αντίστοιχη έρευνα που υλοποίησε ο συνεργαζόμενος με την ΑΚΤΗ οργανισμός της Λιθουανίας «Centre for equality advancement».

Τα αποτελέσματα:

Από ένα σύνολο 1088 δρόμων, η Λάρνακα έχει αφιερώσει το 51,65% σε αντρικές προσωπικότητες (συμπ. αρχαίων ονομάτων, αρχαίων θεοτήτων, θρησκευτικών ονομάτων και σύγχρονων αντρών). Αντίθετα, μόλις το 9,66% έχει αφιερωθεί σε γυναίκες (συμπ. αρχαίων ονομάτων, αρχαίων θεοτήτων, θρησκευτικών ονομάτων και σύγχρονων γυναικών). Το υπόλοιπο 38,69% αντιστοιχεί σε άλλες ονομασίες, όπως σημαντικές ιστορικές ημερομηνίες, γεωγραφικοί προσδιορισμοί, ιδέες/έννοιες όπως ειρήνη, ελευθερία κ.ά.

Σε μια βαθύτερη ανάλυση, ψάχνοντας τις οδούς με όνομα σύγχρονων γυναικών βλέπουμε ότι το ποσοστό αυτό πέφτει στο 2,02% (στους σύγχρονους άνδρες αντιστοιχεί το 34,47%). Ενδιαφέρον παρουσιάζουν αναλυτικά τα στοιχεία για τις σύγχρονες γυναίκες -Κύπριες και μη- όπως και για τους σύγχρονους άντρες – Κύπριους και μη. Μόλις το ¼ των δρόμων με ονομασία αφιερωμένη σε σύγχρονες γυναίκες αφορά Κύπριες. Αντιστοιχεί δηλαδή στο 0,5% από το σύνολο των δρόμων της Λάρνακας, μόλις 5 δρόμοι. Από το σύνολο των σύγχρονων γυναικών στην Πάφο, 1 στους 2 δρόμους έχει λάβει όνομα από σύγχρονη Κύπρια γυναίκα, ενώ στη Λευκωσία η αντίστοιχη αναλογία είναι λιγότερες από 1 στις 7 οδούς. Όσον αφορά την ονοματοδοσία δρόμων από συγχρόνους Κύπριους άντρες, η Λάρνακα λαμβάνει ποσοστό 39%, η Πάφος 59% και η Λευκωσία 44% από το σύνολο των σύγχρονων αντρών.

Όπως στους μηχανισμούς εξουσίας στη νήσο κυριαρχεί η ανδρική παρουσία, έτσι και εδώ! Η ανδροκρατούμενη κοινωνία μας αντικατοπτρίζεται πολύ εύγλωττα στα ονόματα των δρόμων της Λάρνακας, της Πάφου και της Λευκωσίας! Η έρευνά μας θα συνεχιστεί και στην πόλη της Λεμεσού.

Και θα συνεχίσουμε να δουλεύουμε για ίσες ευκαιρίες σε όλα τα παιδιά μας, κορίτσια και αγόρια.

Our scientific team was in Malta last week, carrying out a municipal waste characterization study, in order to identify the main types of waste disposed by households, restaurants and offices in Birgu.

Furthermore our members participated among other 50 volunteers on a beach cleanup that took place at St. Thomas Beach, in Marsaskala. The beach cleanup was organised by #NatureTrustMalta.

In the framework of our awareness raising campaign on marine pollution caused mainly from plastics our team visited University of Cyprus and Cyprus University of Technology.  
Students were also informed by our team members about the fight about single-use plastics and recycling.

With the platform 100,000 trees in Paphos and the Municipality of Geroskipou we are proceeding with our first tree planting!

The tree planting will take place in December the  1st.
