CAMPERS SAY THEIR OPINION…..

“What is your best memory from the camp?”

“Making friendships, ones that will last a lifetime.”

Salahi Engin, 17 years old

“Everyone was open and very honest from the start. There were no problems in conversations and making good friends.”

Yaşar Buhara, 19 years old

“Has this camping-trip changed you in any way – either the way you view things/people or your personality?”

“I am more aware of the problems in Cyprus and the amount of invasion/destruction of nature. I have seen that you can actually change things if you have absolute confidence in yourself, determination and courage.”

Adil Seytanoglu, 22 years old

“I didn’t know anything about the environment and sustainability before. Now I have become more aware and have learnt that people can change things on their own if they set their mind to it. Following this, I have realised that even small actions count a lot from all individuals in protecting the environment (e.g. from throwing a can in the bin). I have formed friendships that are much deeper and stronger than I thought I would make.

Salahi Engin, 17 years old

“After being separated for 30 years, I expected the Turkish Cypriot community to be more eastern and nationalistic, however now I realize that we are all the same and have kept the same culture as one another that we used to have. I have become aware of the environment also and consider the actions I take now so that they are environmentally-friendly. For some things, the truth is not what others tell you, but it is what you build based on your experiences.”

Andreas Arnaoutis, 17 years old

“I feel that I have become more mature and am much happier with myself. I have faced some of my fears here (staying alone, living in a tenth and staying in the dark). The workshops given have inspired me to consider studying coastal engineering in the future as I find this very interesting and there is much to be done in Cyprus in this field.”

Eliz Volkan, 16 years old

“I have become more environmentally concerned and friendly. I have started learning Greek words and know more about the Greek culture and the way the Greek-Cypriot community lives. We have all become good friends and have made plans to see each other in the future. We are all brothers and sisters living in the same country. I feel perfect and really happy to attend this camp – I don’t want to go back!”
