RECYCLING
ON CYCLES
April 2007 - August 2008
The project aims in
promoting the Aarhus Convention principles and UN Global Compact, by
focusing on the thematic area of "Cooperation on solid waste management,
including recycling". The idea is to create a mobile information centre,
by modifying a conventional caravan in such a way to serve this need.
The caravan will travel all around the island, from south to north, from
east to west. It will "park" for some days in town's and village's
squares, will visit schools, hotels, industries, will participate in
Fairs, in festivals and other events. It will be the core for a series
of happenings (e.g. recycling and music (demonstrations), drawing
contest on solid waste management, let's do home composting! etc), for
trainings in specific target groups (eg farmers/organic farmers for
compost, local authorities for promoting recycling, tourist industry,
children and teachers etc).<CLICK

World
Environment Day Green Cities - Plan for the Planet!
5 June 2005
This
bi-communal worldwide celebration was organized by AKTI in collaboration
with the Turkish-Cypriot organisation KAYAD Community Centre. A series
of events and activities focusing on vital environmental issues took
place leading to the World Environment Day 2005 celebration on Sunday 5
June 2005.
By working
altogether, our aim was to empower the civil society of Cyprus to make
our cities greener and to create more bridges upon which relations
between the Greek- and Turkish-Cypriot communities could be encouraged
and strengthened. Cyprus is an island filled with natural beauty that
needs to be preserved. By working with the Turkish-Cypriots to achieve
this common goal, this campaign aimed to confront and conquer two major
challenges: respect and awareness of the surroundings and to encourage
relations and collaborations between the two communities.

Natural Solutions for Agriculture in Cyprus
A
bi-communal workshop on mycorrhizal technology in Cyprus
May 2004 - September 2004:
Mycorrhizae are a symbiosis between fungi and plant roots in the soil.
Some mycorrhizal fungi are famous for producing the fruiting bodies,
which we know as mushrooms. The fungus provides the plant with nutrients
in exchange for sugars from photosynthesis. Mycorrhizae are a natural
partnership that evolved over 450 million years ago, and which concerns
over 80% of land plants. Without mycorrhizae, most of the land surface
of our planet would be almost lifeless.
