Cyprus can’t afford to treat rain as a solution to water scarcity.

In this article, written by AKTI Project and Research Centre as part of the NURISH project, we reflect on a question that returns every year: does a rainy winter mean Cyprus’ water problem has been solved? The answer is no.

While rainfall may temporarily replenish reservoirs, water resilience depends on something much deeper: healthy soils, sustainable resource management and the ability of communities to adapt to a changing climate.

The article explores why strengthening soil health must become part of the national conversation on water security and how NURISH is supporting practical, circular solutions that help transform organic waste into a resource for healthier soils, more resilient agriculture and stronger local adaptation to climate change.
